My mother found this by the side of the road on one of her walks. She dragged it home, and gave it to me. It looks old, I'm just not sure how old. It looks handmade to me, but I'm no expert. I see a few wooden pegs, some straight slotted screws underneath, and a few well small well patina'd nails. Value is gone, due to the previous owners having stripped the finish off, and it looks like the joints were loose, so they pounded some small nails into it on the back, as well as glue in some of the joints. It it solid now anyway, and very comfortable.

Cane has been replaced with what looks like plastic caning. The caning on the backrest looks as though they painted it white. I think it could use a little light sanding in spots, and then some refinishing. I've got some dark walnut Restor-A-Finish. should I use something else? I'm open to suggestions.

Looks like a 1960s "colonial" style pine rocker, someone loved it a lot (re-caned and pickled it). No idea if a darker finish will be easy to apply, doubtful.

I was thinking 50's or 60's, but I couldn't tell if it was any older than that due to all the "work" done to it.

It's possible it could be 50s too, but by the mid-60s and well into the end of the 70s, colonial style was popular.

It appears some of the wood may have been replaced too. Well loved. :shame:

Just think, in another 30 or 40 years, it will be an "antique", and my grandkids will be back here wanting to know about Grandpa's rocker!

    yes

I expect the value of brown wood furniture to make a comeback in the near future. You just cannot go wrong to pick up nice pieces that suit your needs. :joyful:
