At least the ones i have seen so far are calling these opium lamps?
Pretty small at a little over 3" wide.
Any information anyone might have would be appreciated.

    Opium lamps in what way?
You smoke opium and then lie around in the dim light of one of these lamps?

Oh - I just looked it up - used for cooking the opium over, so you can inhale the vapor.

I suppose you could still lie around in the dim light afterwards.:wideyed::D

definitely an opium lamp. I think it's missing the glass chimney at the top. The chimney would protect the flame, but also concentrate the heat.

The lamp is used for heating the opium gum or sap that's inside the pipe. As the sap heats up, it vapourises (that's the opium-smoke that you inhale). It's actually not possible to smoke opium without one of these lamps.

Pipes are fairly common. Lamps, not so much. It's a thing of beauty!

Yep an opium lamp, chimneys are sort of conical shaped - nice to have one but these sell ok with or without.

fyi - opium resin is smeared on the outside of the pipe bowl, not inside.

Is that Cloisonne or Champleve, it looks like the enamel is in areas carved out of the metal, so it would be Champleve. But I am still learning about this so I could be totally wrong ;)
