here i have a pair of small green glass vases with silver overlay. There is a small ‘sterling silver’ mark on the top rim of each vase but no full hallmarks or signature.

Im not sure of the country of origin, age, type of flower, or even what this glass would be called, so all help in welcomed.

    very nice....good eye !!
From what I've learned here different companies made the glass, and others added the silver,,,

Check all over the silver, sometimes there is a tiny hallmark hiding in the design or along an edge :)

Ratsy Brown, off-topic but . . . I really like your "forum" name. It outclasses "Mousy Brown" by a far stretch. ;) :D

    P.S. I love your vase(s). Very pretty. ;)

Since Ratsy says there is a "tiny sterling silver mark" on the top rim, I think it is safe to assume that at least the silver deposit was done in the States.

Is that like a 'satin glass'????? LOVELY Vase!!!!! I know it's silver overlay, like you said, but waiting to hear what the "glassies" have to say!!!!:):):):):)

Thanks yourturn, Ratsy Brown is my girlfriends nickname for me.

Although i live in the UK I will assume these were made in the states, definitely no other silver markings.

It doesn't look like silver deposit, it seems to have the thickness of silver overlay. OP, can you get a fingernail under the silver, or does it seem to be painted on the glass?

Definitely overlayed onto the glass. One of the buds actually snapped off while i was polishing, i will find some way of reattaching.

For those interested. This pair of vases have been identified as Loetz. The flowers are Cyclamen. The pattern number is PN II-146 by Diana Glatt c1900.

We really like it when someone comes back and reports on the id of their item.
    Thank you.

I didn't see this thread when it was first started. I'm not surprised at the Loetz id. The whole time I was looking, I was thinking Art Nouveau, Austrian

Just as a point of information, don't assume STERLING as a mark means US. There's British stuff marked like that. Although those were done in Austria.

As noted, the glass may have been made in Austria and the sterling done in Brittan or the US. Silversmiths would not have the facilities to have made glass. They would have had to purchase it from someone.

I had a little flower vase that was Loetz, but the flower frog top was marked with a British maker. Like this one, except mine was blue iridescent.

I have a Loetz vase that was bought blank, shipped to a shop the USA and the silver was added by a company in NY and NJ. I emailed back and forth with a Loetz collector society in Switzerland and they said that was very common :)

    Beautiful vases!!!!!!
