OK, I'll do these as separate threads. I'm selling a couple of clocks and some watches for a neighbour, any information appreiciated. These clocks both came from her uncle in Southern Ireland, so I'm guessing Irish country pieces. The mantel still has an amzing chime.

I like the first one, the wall clock. The dial is handpainted and I suspect it sat in a railway station or a shop. It's so honest.

I'd guess the second one to be 1920s-30s.

The first one is a fusee movement and is very interesting. @afantiques will be able to tell you more. Lovely clock!:)

Fusee clocks used to bring a premium price when I was more involved in such things years ago. I do not know how the current market has affected them. Here is a little info on a fusee movement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusee_(horology)

Brief insomniac comment, the dial clock is presumably 12 inches. Off the boil pricewise from what they were, bit the dial and layout are a bit different. If the top picture is upside down then the layout is routine.
The second one is called a ting tang clock because of the striking on 2 gongs. It is German, almost certainly, and could be 1920s.
Rather less desirable than the fusee dial .

Hi af - yes, you're right, it's upside down - the fusee that is. And the rim measures almost dead on twelve inches. How old would it be please?

Thank you for answering on both of them; I love the term ting tang, it's just how it sounds. Any idea what they might get at auction?

In regards to the fusee I see them going all over the place in this condition. If you list this in an online auction format please let me know. I may be interested in bidding.

It is my expectation the fusee would sell in the 200-300 US currency range for you. If a clock person with a good reputation had went through it and cleaned it and had it running top notch I would expect it to sell for twice that or slightly more.

This is just my thoughts and I have been wrong before. This is a clock that has been on my wish list for quite a while though and I have taken note of these through the years. I did some poking around online and think that is a reasonable expectation in the current market. I believe it is from the second half of the nineteenth century BTW.

Just my thoughts and would be glad to have AF correct me if I am wrong. Again, please let me know about the listing!

Barbara, I'd sell it at an actual auction over here in London - I'd be happy to sell it direct to you, but Heaven only knows how I'd ship the damn thing!

The thought of shipping it across the pond would be more then my heart could take! Lovely clock though and I wish you top dollar!!!!

You could take it and have it professionally packed...even a clock shop might do that. :)
It isn't that hard if you think it out. :)

Pull the pegs and lift off the back box for a clear shot of the movement. If where the pillar goes through the front plate it has a pin, possibly late 19th C, if there is a nut, certainly 20th C. The numberless dial pretty well rules it out for any offical purpose, school or station. Although the repaint may be a lot later.
In a British sale local to me, probably £80 to £120 for the dial, exclusive of BP, London may be dearer, it usually is.
The other one is well out of fashion, maybe £30 to £50. If it were Winterhalder and Hoffmeir or Lenzkirch, a little more but I am pretty sure it is not.
    Clock prices remain depressed.
It's a shame as I have a few of them.

Thanks Barbara! I think the killer would also be the shipping cost. I've packed electronics before now, so packing isn't too bad.

I had a terrible experience with a well packed item years ago coming from England and no amount of packing expertise could have saved it. It looked like it had been ran over and then kicked across the pond. I am hopeful that Ownedbybear will realize top dollar in that market and I shall keep my patient nose to the ground here in the states. One will turn up someday in my hunting grounds!
