I'm brand new to this site and really need some help. I purchased a Cutler roll top desk in reasonable condition and while going through it found a label affixed to the inside of the upper left desk drawer. I've looked this name up and he turns out to be a quite famous Scottish Philosopher. Apparently John Stuart mills has statues dedicated to him in the UK and was a very important man in his time. He was a member of Parliment and had large volume of works published on many subjects. My conundrum is this. I don't know whether to have the desk refinished. If so where? I don't know if Cutler kept records of who they made desks for. I also have no idea of what the value would be. In short, I need the whole junior starter kit. If you have any ideas, please respond. Thanks in advance for the help. Scott upload_2020-10-23_13-14-58.png

    Welcome Scott!

You must be referring to John Stuart Mill (no "s"), a Scottish philosopher from the early and mid 19th century. The label for the desk is much later. So: no worries on refinishing the desk :)
