I purchased a gorgeous Haviland bowl, but I'm having trouble with the marks. In combing through my Schleiger books, I found that this is likely an undocumented pattern/blank. The Blank is 213 which is blank 205 with gold. However, in one of her later books, Dona Schleiger amended it to add blank 213A which is the same blank only with green trim.

The green trim is described as applied exactly like the red trim on this bowl. So I'm thinking maybe I just added 213B? But the problem is with the marks. In the photos you can see that the word Trianon is written which turns out to be a completely different pattern than this. And the numbers 13354 are the Haviland product numbers which don't turn up anywhere. Also, would this be a Salesman's Sample?? So, my questions are: salesman's sample? what does Trianon mean? Here's the photos, TY!

How big is the bowl? ;):playful::D:D

If it is as small as you indicate, maybe part of a child's dish set.:happy:

Hi Peggy, A salesman's sample in Haviland is full size. In any case, this is a full size covered vegetable bowl. They're all pretty much the same size. Since I forgot to give measurements, it's 11" x 7" x 5" high including handles and finials. Thanks!

Perhaps a test piece that didn't make it into widespread production? Replacements shows three different Haviland patterns named Trianon. Maybe this is a fourth and oldest iteration of this pattern? You may want to try the Haviland and Limoges group on eBay. They may know what the handwritten marks represent.

Don, thanks! I'm not on Facebook, Google manipulates me enough. I put this over on the ebay board and got some help there. It is a Salesman's sample but I still can't figure out what the Trianon means. The 13354 is the pattern number, but it is undocumented, at least by Dona Schleiger in her books.

    Hi,
There are so many things called "salesmen samples" it means nothing. A salesman would not carry hundreds of pieces of china around. They would have samples by showing pictures not carrying around actual samples. The china companies might have made samples but NOT salesman's samples. It just could have been made in several different colors ways and yours might have been tested but no marketed.
