    Hello everybody,
Just want to show you this nice decorative bottle I have. I got it about 20 years ago. The bottle was made for the 1500 anniversary of Kyiv. The images are three brothers - Kiy, Shchek and Khoriv who, according to the chronicles, founded Kyiv and their sister Libid. The bottle was made at Kyiv porcelain factory. They are in traditional clothes of Kyiv Rus. The first one Kiy was a warrior, defender of Kyiv Rus. Wheat means people of that period were farmers.
If you want to know more about those personalities or Kyiv history, please let me know. I can tell a lot.

Hi Natasha! :cat: Are these 3 figures all on one square bottle? What is on the fourth side? What was in the bottle?:happy:

Of course I want to know more about Kyiv and these characters!:happy: I did look to see that I have always seen it spelled "Kiev" and it is Ukraine's capital.

Hi antidiem, sorry I missed the fourth one (hard to count up to four, ha!) The youngest brother was Khoriv. Fish means Kyiv is located on the Dnipro river. At that time there was a lot of fish there. As for spelling, Kiev is a Russian variant. In Ukrainian it is Kyiv which is closer by pronunciation to the name of Kiy. For the last twenty years there has been a campaign all over the world to change Kiev for Kyiv. Many countried did already.
Any Jewelry, nice to hear from you. Actually, it's not mythology, rather a legend which is based on historical reasearches. Kiy was a legendary prince. Still in Kyiv there is a hill named Shchekavytsya and a street (after the second brother), a street named Khoreva ( after the third brother) - both in the ancient part of the city. And there is a river (very small now), after sister Lybid. And even the metro station named after her. There is an epic work "Chronicle of Bygone Years" which tells about those times and the persons. I think it is translated into English (maybe partly). Though it says it is Russian, but it has nothing to do with Russia. The Chronicle gives the period when Kiy lived, it is assumed sometime between 570 - 640. So, Kyiv was founded during this period. Official data is 988. That year Kyiv Rus was baptised and legalised as a state. The Chronicle itself was written in about 1100. Moscow was first mentioned as Moskovia princedom in 1147.

Nice to hear from you to, Natasha. I always love your posts, and the love you have for your country. I just wish you would post more often, but of course there are other things you have to take care of.

How is corona/covid in your part of the world? I hope you will be safe.

570-640, 988, 1100 - that is so ancient, it's hard to imagine! What originally came inside of the bottle? :joyful::kiss:

Thank you, Any Jewelry, I am glad you find my posts interesting. I used to have an intersting website about arts, culture and history of Ukraine, I worked on it for 20 years. Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed and it is very difficult and expensive to revive it......
As for the COVID, it's as bad as everywhere else. A lot of my friends moved out of the city and I feel pretty isolated. Also, I tried to stay inside most of the time as I live downtown and it's pretty crowded around. And the worst is that nobody can say when and how it will be over..... You too take care of yourself and stay well

Yes, my country has a long history. I would tell a lot but the space is limited. The bottle is decorative, so nothing is inside.

I also stay inside. Fortunately I can have everything we need home delivered.
I think it will be a long time, and life after covid may not be the same as it used to be. Sometimes we have to accept the inevitable, there is still beauty in the little things.:)
