Basket Help

Hi,
Trying to figure out where this basket was made - South America maybe? 10" x 5" x 7".

 

You could use a good book....but for now...you got me !! ....Heehehehe!!!

You have a Northwest Coast Makah red cedar bark market basket..( or purse..) .
A lot of the time on older ones the handles get shredded & there's a lot of scuffing to the base.

This one is neither old nor used & a absence of a bear grass design lessens it's value & places it as a made for tourist sale item.....let's say 1970's or later.
Still...condition is great & I'd value it retail between $ 200 to $300.

 

Geez, living on the West Coast I should be able to recognize Native pieces, but I've not seen one like this. Thank-you Komokwa!
I saw the books you recommended on another thread - have put them on my list.

 

Shoot, maybe I'd better go pull out one of the baskets I was going to toss LOL.

 

I wouldn't have thought it First Nations either! Makah tribe is just south of us.

WOW..I need to dig up my baskets I used to have hanging all over my kitchen wall. Got tired of looking at them and tossed them in the barn.
