    I just got back yesterday night.

    I suspect you may be right about it being a marriage, that cut away seatboard is odd, but I'm not to worried about the inner front of the case not matching the arch. It is in my opinion mid 19th c. at earliest, could be up to end of 19th C and could be in a later case of appropriate design, I cannor see it well enought to be sure.

    Could the glass be replaced? I'm wondering if it wasn't reverse-painted at some point around the edges.

    Reverse painting was as far as I know , never done on this type of clock/

    I was trying to make sense of the clock face and the case being different shapes. If they started life together, a case of the clock maker using what was handy, I figured maybe it was painted to hide the mismatch. Odds are some grandpa put the two together to make a usable clock, especially since someone who knows what he's talking about says so.
