Decorative copper charger for hanging? My opinion would be too big for a flue cover, but I HAVE been known to be wrong!!! Wait for others to chime in!!:rolleyes:

i don't see how the shape of the rear fits a flue...any flue...??
and the placement of the hanger doesn't work either..

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I'm confused about why a flue cover would have a ring on the back. Can somebofy advise about that?
How big is the ring? For something that large and heavy, it seems that one ring would not be sufficient for hanging it. Also, I notice the ring might have some silver solder on it?

I sincerely doubt this was made as a flue cover. Too heavy, back would not sit well against the wall surface around the hole.

I have similar plates, but in silver. This one is an embossed masterpiece from a single sheet of copper. My plates are from about 1670, smaller, and only intended to hang as an ornament on the wall. This one may be from the middle of the 18th century. Completely handmade.

Don't you think the ring is on the wrong side. It doesn't look as if it would be exposed once it was in position.

I'm inclined to agree with Aquitaine, a 'decorative copper charger for hanging'.

The ring is on the back side, ready to be fitted on a nail in the wall. The plate could as well be placed on a shelf.
