Payed $50 more than scrap for this ring at $180. Lovely Ostby Barton piece, my first solid gold ring from them. It had been worn quite a bit and the carnelian has some wiggle room but it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Quite dirty needs a cleaning, quite nervous to go about scrubbing this ring. What would you all do?
Interesting, i took it to my antique jewler and she said it looked good to her as in being original but I have no idea. You could very well be right. I was not hoping to hear that dang.... one of my bigger purchases
Are you sure it's carnelian? When I Googled the jeweler's name, this came up: https://www.etsy.com/listing/546450...MIg6uf0qmu1wIV2LXACh1r2gsxEAYYAiABEgITyPD_BwE
Thanks! My jeweler was the one who said it was a carnelian and I definitely agree. Whether the stone has been replaced or not I have no idea, OB used this style stone in many of their rings so at the very least it's the correct style stone. I used a brush and some water and the gunk came right off, there was a lot of gunk on the under side of the stone which leads me to believe if not original it was replaced a long time ago. No for the only problem I have with the ring, the stone does wiggle around a very small amount. What would you guys do? Just wear and enjoy or look into maybe securing it completely?
Nice!!! I have replaced a couple of stones in antique rings with upgrades and they always have to repair the old worn prongs when they do that to hold the new stone so I would have thought the worn prongs to be correct for an original stone but I don't really know.
