Information about antique candle molds.

I saw some old candle molds yesterday. After looking at ebay, I'm more confused why some sell so high well others that look similar, do not. One that I saw yesterday had 12 tubes and was marked Canada. The other had 8 tubes with no markings. Both were tin but had very different feel. There wasn't much information online about which type were more desirable than others.

The place was too dark to get a photo with my camera. I know these are still made, however, the two that I saw were definitely old.

 

They "had" a different feel,looked old.Guess they were made with older type tin"plated" steel which the tin plating is much thicker than modern tin ware.But a number of tinsmiths have been hand dipping their sheet steel for over 20 years and 20 years of use can look like a 100 years of use.

 

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant each set felt different than the other. I'm confident these were much older.

 

All you have to do is look at sites like Jas. Townsend and Son to see that repros are so much like the original items, it's hard to tell without a lot of hands on experience.

 

I just looked at that site. What I saw did not look like that. The top was almost flat, no deep well.

Is anyone familiar with a source or book of information on antique candle molds?
