This was created by Villeroy & Boch to honour a renowned chef. I suspect late 1980s or early 1990s. It measures 20cm x 20cm x 20cm.

What would one use it for? Cheese dish? Other suggestions welcomed, please.

    To whom would it appeal?

How much would you consider it would fetch on the market?

Would anybody on this site buy it? PB1.jpg PB3.jpg PB5.jpg PB2.jpg

Maybe as a cloche for a Bocuse dish? His servings were notoriously small.

If the "windows" are "open", perhaps to hold a candle?

That would explain the round indentation in the base.

I see a little jar in that spot. A candle would make the interior hard to clean. Perhaps mustard or jam?

It appears to be ceramic portrayal of Paul Bocuse's original restaurant in the Lyon house where he was born (and died too).

As for the circular indentation in the base my guess is that it was meant for a small candle, like a votive. They usually come in a round metal holder. Lit it would give a sweet glow to the Bocuse house.

Perhaps it was intended as a gift to privileged patrons of Bocuse's establishments, or just as a decor in a restaurant window. I think it's adorable!

I haven't bought it yet, or even know if I will. A local seller wants a "reasonable" offer. Lizzjewel, as you think it adorable, what price would you go to in the market?

Judy, I don't think the windows are open, but they seem to have insert a transparent material. Looking at the first picture, on the top floor it seems that one can see right through to the windows opposite.

It's L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges near Lyons.

I read that V & B partners with the Bocuse D'Or culinary competition and saw a lot of dishes, but then my interest petered out. Isn't V & B made in China now?

Brian, you are not saying in which "local" market you are? I am in the U.S. and as a general rule never make offers.

However, similar ceramic "houses", gingerbread, Christmas cottages, etc., including by V&B, are listed on the usual online auctions. It would be up to any interested buyer to compare there first for going market prices. And although I find it adorable, my house is already maxed out on space for more adorables so I'll have to pass, sorry.

I wasn't expecting you to want it, just give me an idea of what you would bid if you did want.

I have now found one that was sold by auction in 2017, and if the auctioneer comes back to I will let you all know what was paid for it.

@Brian Warshaw Again, I don't make offers, either practical or hypothetical. Glad to read you found one auction result so there's a good start.
