Native American Pottery Vase

Hi. I'm trying to decipher the signature and figure out the tribe for this recent thrift store find. Thanks!

 

I'm afraid it's just a tourist piece. There is no tribal designation.
I would call it "Southwestern style"

I think it says Dine; at least I found a couple more in image search. Dine=Navajo, but it's tourist pottery, as Stracci said.

It was made by the Cedar Mesa Pottery factory in Blanding, Utah.

The company did hire some Native American workers, who "signed" the pottery, which was made in molds (some 20-30 different shapes), and finished in 50 or more design patterns, chosen by the company.

None of the owners were Native American. Many of the workers were Navajo, which would explain why they signed as "Dine," but since they didn't make the pottery, or design the finished product, it can hardly qualify as "Native American," despite the claims made by the factory. They were simply workers, making a product under the direction of the owners.

The company merged with a couple other factories producing similar "Southwest tourist" pottery in 2001, but there's a lot of it still out there on the market, usually misidentified as "Navajo."
