Mask - what region is it from? And is it just a souvenir?

I wondered if anyone might be able to tell me what style / region of the world this mask is please? Also, is it just a souvenir mask or might there be more to it?

I'd say it is a souvenir, but not sure from where.

 

I suspect it is just a decorative, generic "tribal" thing.

I'm not sure what you mean?? Am I "that guy"? Or is "that guy" the mask man who seems to be thinking about the bare breasted woman with a tribal mini skirt?

 

It looks like terracotta, which is an odd material for a genuine mask anyway.

So do many tourists, so the maker knew his market.

 

Well, after a trawl through google images to try and find out what area/era the mask replicates, I've had no luck. I found a couple of stock photos showing a similar design:

But they don't have any info of relevance.

My best guess is that it was made in Mexico, fairly recently (1970's and forward), and possibly loosely inspired by Mayan imagery.

 

He's talking about the mask.....nothing personal !!

But......

If u see yourself as ' That Guy " too......well what's the harm in that ....
