Hello . . .

    Good Day All

    After browsing for a while on the Antiquers Silver forum I took the plunge and joined this evening.

    I have enjoyed antiques since I was a school boy . . . my Grandmother would let me freely explore her antiques display cabinet whenever I liked and I developed an enjoyment of old things. I would not describe myself as a collector because there is not enough organisation in what I choose to buy and I essentially buy things with the idea of using them. It gives me much pleasure, for example, that the teaspoon I use to stir my coffee is more than 150 years old and still beautiful and useful! I particularly enjoy crystal drinking glasses and decanters, fine china, and silver. I also enjoy some early 20th Century items, such as "mid-century modern" china by Rosenthal.

    I have joined Antiquers in the hope of learning more about silver, because although I have a number of books (such as a reprint of Jackson on silver marks) I find that there seem to be variations that do not appear in the printed lists and I hope to benefit from other's experience and advice.
