A button hook, for sure! Perhaps coupled with a shoe horn, but, if it is celluloid, too fragile to be used

I have no idea. The only reason I knew what it was is I saw lots of them whilst searching Ebay for knitting and crocheting items for the Mrs.

I think this one has a certain appeal to it and don't recall seeing any others like it.

 

I briefly looked for Pierrot button hooks and didnt see another one like it. Probably celluloid,but his little head sure likes like ivory to me. I bet it did double duty as a shoe horn too. Very charming little thing.

It's at least 100 years old; it's been that long since ladies had to button up their shoes.

 

Definitely French, molded material, delightful Pierrot. Looks to me as though mark is this one:

I'm not initiated into the ways of the button hook, but can see that this one would be good for traveling.
