The way to call him up is to put the @ symbol in front of his internet 'handle'...like this: @verybrad....get it right and his icon pops up and he turns into a hyperlink and voila, if he's online, he'll turn up!! If not, he will eventually!!

I would call your item a bedside table or cabinet.

 

It appears to be a normal hospital bedside cabinet, made from steel as they don’t hold germs like wood does (laminates seal the particle board in today’s cabinets). Simmons made hospital beds and likely made these complimentary items.
