Every side is scalloped, all eight of them. If you could hand hammered glass, this would be one of those pieces. The glass is textured to look like hammered metal. The seams go up to the applied lip. The number 3 is molded into the bottom. Would it be for poison like others that either have ribs or are shaped differently? Any information you can share is appreciated!

I have a lot of old bottles and know a little. It is not a poison. My first thought was a capers jar. Often certain shapes routinely signaled contents like the cathedral pickle jars. I have a few capers jars myself but not like yours. This link goes to one very similar to yours. https://www.antique-bottles.net/sho...ers-bottle-Late-1700-or-Early-1800s&styleid=2

The texture on the side is referred to as "chiseled" and is a feature of some old bottles.

Sorry to post so many times, I am rather bad about not getting everything the first time. I belong to a great bottle collectors group on Facebook if you are on there. It is just collectors, no sales. If you wish to join they ask a couple of questions, one being if you know what a machine made bottle is because they are not allowed on there. (They are bottles made after approx 1905 where the mold seam goes all the way up to the top and over the lip in one continuous line)

You may like to join and ask what they have to say. You will get to see some fantastic early glass on there. They are very active posting daily with different themes like blue glass, sunburst flasks, etc. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/9767861815/
