What Am I? Carved From 1 Piece

    Hi All,
    Is there a name for this piece? Looks like it is carved from 1 piece of wood, which is quite amazing to me. Not old, tourist/souvenir piece maybe?
    It is 24"L.
    any information appreciated

    Looks like hobbyist carved flail,the chain and ball in box are common projects.

    Could perhaps be used as a fish club if it is heavy enough; but probably it is just a hobbyist carved piece, made as a tour-de-force. The chain and the boxed ball are common motifs for hobbyist carvers to demonstrate or practice their skills (as Hollyblue mentioned).

    No, not heavy enough for that.
    to me that takes some real talent to be able to carve this out of one piece:)

    Lots of ivory carved like that by sailors, too. There's a room full of those pieces in the Pilgrim Museum in Provincetown. This is from the internet.
