Fun elephant crackle pattern signed "D"

    elephantcrackle1.jpg elephantcrackle2.jpg elephantcrackle3.jpg Enjoying this elephant which I imagine is happy. Is this a common glazing pattern? Anyone recognize the "D" at the bottom (its written twice, once carved in).

    Thanks for all the responses. It looks like the crackle pattern might be this:
    Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed.
