    It is a Masai ebony carving. Ebony is a hardwood. Yours looks a bit like coromandel, but ebony can have lighter parts as well.

    I'd agree with ebony. Today one almost never sees ebony without the white streaks, though in the last century one could obtain ebony that was actually solid black.

    I believe it is ebony. Sometimes people think ebony must be solid black; but often ebony is not solid black, but is dark brown with white streaks.

  6. Thank you for understanding me !

    Just because you ask one question does not mean that we cannot have many answers or comments on your item......
    People will offer their thoughts, & maybe you will get more information than you asked for.......
    But...it's all good & fun !!! :happy::happy::happy:

    Emoticons: the easiest way, is when you are making your post, the toolbar right above the message area has a small "smile face" 1.jpg
    and if you left-click that, a menu will open showing many possible emoticons;

    if you left-click on one of the emoticons it should appear in the message. :) :happy:

    You're doing fine, don't worry.
    This is a wonderful forum. To many of us it is like a second home.
    And some of us give a lot of information at times, I am certainly guilty of that, but it is usually useful information. And we love a laugh as well.:)
