pottery mark.jpg mortar and pestle.jpg I would like help in identifying the maker of this piece of pottery based on the mark. The piece itself measures approximately 4-1/4" X3". Also, any guesses as to what its use was? The mortar/masher is obviously stained by some kind of oil on the bottom. It fits the rim of the jar quite tightly but moves about freely once past the rim. Thank you in advance for your help.

Just my opinion: I don't believe these 2 items started life together. It appears you have a stoneware jar (not a mortar) and a wooden pestle/masher.

Well it looks like a yellowware canning jar but on the small size. Unless the yellow is a result of the photo rather than the piece.
