Featured What Is This Plaque?

    I found this plaque yesterday, it seems to be a carving on porcelainish plaque measuring 3-5/8"W x 4-1/4"H. it seems like it could be a printing block but I doubt it is. Once it is backlighted is when the subject matter becomes pronounced and very intricate. My question is, what is it? baby1.jpg baby2.jpg

    It’s called a lithopane or lithophane, hope I’ve spelled one of these right.
    It’s not for printing purposes but to be viewed with light behind it as you have done. It’s a decorative thing.

    Can see it as a nightlight in a child's room. In the background, is a woman decorating a Christmas tree?
