These sure made me smile. Local ebid vendor had them for sale at
only AU$23 inc postage and I couldn't resist the goofy looks. They could
be those “made by the thousands in a third world country for the
tourists” but I didn't care they made me smile every time I looked at
them. It looks like the main body is made from a toilet float!
    13cm high 9cm wide 16cm long.
    Cropped photos from ebid ad.

Ever bought something because it made you smile?

    Cheers
    Stephen

These are delightful. They gave me a big smile when I got down to them. I'd say lion fish if they didn't look like duck fish.

Many of my cameos came to live here because they tickled me in some way. Latest acquisition is like that. Still on its way, cropped seller's photo.

Venus & Cupid warming themselves at a brazier because of course if they put on any more clothes we'd never recognize them.

I like those fish. They're colorful, fun, and clever.

That's a beautiful cameo, but it would make me crazy. Being one of the four seasons, I would feel compelled to search out the other three.

I wish I could find more figurines like these, which I believe are out there. Not sure who made them, but I have a vague recollection of once seeing a reference to a New Jersey company. They've been in my china cabinet for more than 10 years and still give me a chuckle when they catch my eye as I go to bed.

It is quite possible you're correct about its being the winter scene from a Seasons set. I do see such things as wall decor using Wedgwood type plaques, or plaster. Doesn't make me crazy, gives me something to watch out for & incredible satisfaction if I find another. There is a series of 12 figures who appear with variable frequency on cameos. I have at least one example of 11 of them. The only specimen of #12 I have seen is too poorly carved for too much money, even if she would complete the lineup. Someday a decent one will turn up & someday my price will come.

    Stephen, I love your fish.

Here is mine, our crazy couple from Yogyakarta, Central Java.
These are the silliest take on loro blonyo or bridal figurines. Loro blonyo represent the Goddess Dewi Sri and her consort. Many married couples have them, to take their place spiritually when they are away from the house.

Since we are both a bit crazy, we thought these two would do perfectly for us.
They are caricatures of the traditional Central Javanese idea of beauty, which is to resemble the good, noble wayang characters as closely as you can.

For 99 cents and he made me smile, I couldn't resist although there's not one paperclip in my place. This is a public photo. Mine is even more cheerful.

This is an old photo of my spoon-lady, but I still have her, packed away somewhere - her face and hands look to be nicely done papier-mache, the rest constructed of aluminum spoons, forks and small pastry molds, silver-painted wooden beads, and a stainless pot-scrubber for hair...

Oh my, yes I've bought many things that the only real reason was that it made me smile. Here is one of them that was id'd on the boards as Ringo.

Father with Son on a sled....
I found this at a sidewalk mall sale.
    I left it..too pricey...
By the time I got to the car, I realized I had to gift it to my Dad, so I went back in the mall...paid the price....& on the way out of the mall I slipped on the slushy icy pavement....cradling my prize....and hit the road hard, in the path of an oncoming car...which managed to stop ....2 feet from my head !

I was in shock, but the carving was safe...& I was still smiling !
