H & Co made the blank and the painting was done by the person whose initials are painted underneath in 1888.

    It's very pretty!

The artist was a hobbyist, not a professional decorator, but this one seems particularly nice. It is rather larger than I expected, so packing and shipping will not be cheap.

I don't sell, so I have no idea what the market is for things like this. I like to pick them up when I see ones that are nicely done, but only when they are small (space is running out!) You should see whether you can find sold hobbyist painted blanks on eBay or Etsy to judge the market.

    Wait a sec......why not... " That Good "...???
    Folks say it's pretty....it's dated...by a known maker....the painting is nice...it's not damaged.......
Why think for a second that what little I had to say was negative???

Woah. Easy there. No offense meant. Thought that it was a run of the mill... I appreciate your input always. The thing about this method of communication is that it doesn't carry the intented tone.

I agree with Any Jewelry. It is very pretty and the decoration is very typical for that time frame. If you compare it with other items from the 1880's (the floral decorations on Atterbury milk glass comes to mind) you should see the resemblance. The decorator did have some talent. It is unfortunate that hobbyist pieces are not as valued as factory decorated. I've had some factory decorated Haviland that was just dreadful and some hobbyist decorated pieces in my own collection. The market is weak for this type of late 1880's Haviland at the moment (whether hobbyist or factory decorated) but we all know that can change at any time as trends come and go.
