Does anyone have any clue about these? They're calling my name and shouting BID! at me. The only mark is Germany on the bottom.

Don't listen ... LOL! Just kidding. I see damage to the one on the left. Are they ceramic .... or resin? Really don't have much of a clue as to age. Have not seen any quite like these.

They're porcelain. The foot was there when I looked at them. It may have been lost after being looked at by the crowd.

    They're just so unusual.

They are fun, but the lady has lost a foot, and there is a chip off the ashtray part,

One is damaged but I've had similar items that are so rare, they still sell and for good money.

I don't think they'd be both bookends and ashtrays? That wouldn't seem very functional. The question in my mind is "What would they have created that to hold by the books?"

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I'd say "keep sittin'".....a lost foot is pretty serious damage, let alone the chip, Just my HO!!!!

I hate seeing new losses on such things. :(
I usually see it in books that I just KNOW had their covers until recently. :(

Books & lit matches do not seem like a good combination. My suspicion is that they are ashtrays, with a little pocket on the side to hold matches or loose cigarettes, not bookends.

The Internet seems to favor vide-poche. Good suggestion. I was wondering whether the back sides are finished or raw pottery?
