Another treasure from the bottom of a box filled with random paperwork and junk.

It's about 3 inches thick and filled with vintage postcards. The album itself is disintegrating. It was wrapped up in a plastic bag. I'm trying to organize the 'junk' room. Put up some nice shelves and now I'm going through boxes, sorting and weeding so I can get some semblance of control.

My mother's oldest sister was born in 1898. She belonged to an international postcard club in the 20s-30s. They had numerical IDs. They'd send each other batches of postcards in envelopes so many of them weren't actually mailed. I have an old black cardboard suitcase chock full of postcards and now this. Looks like I'm going to be doing lots of research!

Some were mailed and a lot were just collected. Some have notes on the back from the people who sent them asking for my Aunt to send some back. Lots and lots of Canadian Rockies. Trains, public buildings, parks. 22 tinted photos of US Battleships named for states. Those weren't mailed. I think some of them were in the Great White Fleet that sailed around the world. My Aunt's husband was on the USS Maine on that voyage. He may have sent this batch to her.

Thanks for the link to your album. Lots of good advice on how to deal with it. I'd love to leave them as is, but it's in terrible condition.

Here I am, 3 and a half years later, and I still haven't done anything with it. And every time I open it to browse through the cards, more of them fall out of the slits and the black pages continue to deteriorate. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and get archival sleeves with postcard sized sections, get all of the cards out of it and throw the black paper away. I will keep the cover, though.

I took photos of each page last night and started taking them out. I had a package of sleeves that I bought a few years ago when I opened the suitcase. I got all those into sleeves and had some left over. My son and I talked about it. Some of the postcards are from various family members and I'll keep those, but the ones from strangers I will sell. I have a bank account for my grandson and the money will go into that.

Wow, look at all of those postcards... Wonderful! I'm glad you have some appropriate sleeves for them. I have mine in sleeves that hold 8 cards each, four on each side... in an album. Some people like to have single sleeves and keep them in boxes.

    WOW! Nice! :)
I've not looked closely but at least one ship was in the Great White Fleet.

I have 10 of the 20 ships from the Great White Fleet in this book. However, I still have a couple of hundred (or more) in the suitcase so I may find the rest. There are also 17 other battleships that weren't in that Fleet.

    Nice!
I got to meet Teddy's great great grandson at a special event here to celebrate the 100th anniversary of their return. :)
There was a poster and he signed that for me too. :)

I find it odd that the USS Olympia C-6 did not participate in that cruise. :(
