Bamboo little stand

I got this a few weeks ago from the back of the thrift store, it was on it's way to the dumpster, I saved it.
I am always saving things from going to the dump, I don't care anymore what some people say about me. Some things have good history and don't belong buried in a dump.
Anyways, what is this thing ?

Foot rest? They make sitting in a standard sized chair more comfortable for people with legs too short to rest their feet on the floor. Not quite the same thing as a foot stool.

 

Billy, my thought is that it is a little foot stool. The "lashing" holding the pieces of bamboo together seems to have disintegrated some.

They make them in the Philippines, among other places. The one I've shown below is along the same lines, but the top is made of split bamboo, instead of whole pieces:
