I am Ignorant to Art, Charcoal Painting?

Discussion in 'Art' started by Travis Schofer, Feb 13, 2018.

  1. So I have no idea about art and love the knowledge on this site. Would this be considered a charcoal painting? Also it has two signatures. Where does one go to try and identify them? I loaded pictures of the signatures blown up. Is it common to have two artist?

This signature is bottom left This signature is bottom rights

Travis, one may be the name of the painting; the other would be the artist.

Some folks here are pretty good at deciphering signatures, so give it a bit of time for others to check in!

p.s. That one word looks like EVEREST to me... (but Mount Everest, it's not!)

I agree that the words on the left are the title, probably a place name? The end of it looks like the letters que?

    The medium looks like pastels.

    Agree, a pastel sketch (painting).
The word on the left looks like Dunkerque to me, the French name for Dunkirk in French Flanders, coastal northern France. There are quite a few white farmhouses in that area.

  5. Thank you for our responses. Still trying to find out the author or potential value. Digging into research and Art. I am enjoying my new hobby of antiques and art.
