Painted castarn bookends, any info?

These attract a magnet so must be cast iron (castarn, my new slang term.). Dims: 6x2x6”. Anybody know what flaghat character called? Era? Maker? They are completely unmarked.

 

The character is Lady Liberty. She is wearing a Phyrygian cap.

Im guessing the centennial 1876 ? They are in lovely condition.

 

The reason no one’s reproduced those caps is that Phyrygian is hard to pronounce and harder to spell.

Came from an illiterate family.

 

Not illiterate ! Its very common in the south to hear "arn" instead of "iron".

 

That’s why they stayed in such good condition.

Most of theirs have this same style.
Is there a number on the back of yours? It looks like it, but I can’t tell.

They are calling it a man, but I think this is/are yours.

 

Thx for the link. I’ll watch that one. $895. Huh? Interesting. My pair were one of two items I bought during a whole 3-day gun show. A man I was buying from threw them in with a $400. Item to sweeten it enough so I’d take out my wallet. It worked. I like them because of the nice colors and a great casting/finishing job by the maker.

Ok I’ll look closer and with a mag. Glass when I get near them again. Those at link look identical to mine, but not mine.

On the one in link that same location also seems to be a number. Maybe it is a man. Ha!
I found another ad by same Ebay seller. 9916 is the number they list.
