Have seen shards of Asian pottery set as jewellery. Can really be quite striking/lovely.

    Hi,
I had a friend who covered a huge table(5ft wide and 15ft long) with many types of china and porcelain shards. Every one who came to visit had to place three or four shards on the table. When it was finally done he had a massive piece of glass set on it. It looked like Capt Kidd's treasure chest dumped on its side with everything spilling out.
I bought several pieces of Ming Dynasty china shards made into jewelry from Gump's department store in San Francisco back in the 1960s. I bought myself a set of Tuxedo studs and cufflinks made from shards also. I still have the cufflinks.

Sorry if most people are already familiar with this subject. Oh well, it’s a nice conversation, anyway!

Of the many, many things that have passed through my hands over the decades, one of the things I miss still is a silver pill box made from shards of Chinese porcelain recovered from the Atocha. I also had a silver piece of eight from there as well. I miss that too !

I've never found a piece of it. (Or if I did, I didn't know what it was.) Thanks for the head's up. Interesting post!

My primary focus in selling is replacement sterling and silverplate and at one time, china patterns. As a consequence, I have countless empty flatware cases.
One year I broke up chipped and cracked china and covered the lids of cases for my 7 granddaughters. I tried to choose a theme suitable for each girl, stripped the fittings from inside the cases, recovered the linings with pretty wallpapers and a mirror and they became treasure boxes for their jewelry, makeup etc.
After completing the 7 boxes, I realized I could never make this a commercial venture, it was a time-consuming labor of love, but am so pleased to see they are all still making use of these cases.
