Old, new, American, what is this thing?

    Studio pottery,almost impossible to identify. newish, meaning the last 50 years.

    Thank you. It has an odd shape too, I've been researching all day.

    Studio pottery as johnny said.
    Meaning whoever made it, could have sold it through an art studio, art show, arts and crafts flea market, street fair, etc.

    Start with local pottery artists in the area your grandmother would have shopped.
    As johnny said probably very difficult to track down.

    Oh as to what is it?
    Vase or utensil jar.

    I did find this mid century modern piece with very similar signature. I am thinking may be same artist. Gonna have to go to library. And vase was my first guess but shape was throwing me off.

    Hard to say. Size and style of signatures are certainly similar.
    However clay and the way the bottom is finished are completely different. Don't know if that is relevant or not.

    The signatures are different too, but there are lots of people named Miller.

    Not weird enough to be this one, though. The first letter here is most definitely an M and not a W.

    Now I believe it is by John Salgir Miller. Hard to find info about him, but what I can find seems convincing.
