Odd pair of iron birds

Hi!

Found these birds at a charity shop in London and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they were used for and how old they are ?

 

Novelty decorative item some people will buy on impulse. Useful as paperweight. They are about three years old. Are u sure they are iron?

 

These were sold as shelf edgers or for flower pots. I put them in my garden. Patinated brass.
