another silly question: Incised vs impressed numbers.

    Usually see this in connection with Meissen so I guess that will be my starting point. How does one tell the difference? From what Ive seen, incised numbers seem to be in script form and impressed numbers seem to be in whatever the other is. From what I read impressed number indicates the mold pattern and incised indicates the "former." SO who is a former? What do they do? ANy insight would be appreciated thanks.

    Incised numbers are hand drawn into the clay. Impressed numbers are made with tools that have the number raised on a stamping surface.

    What about whom they designate? Is that standard or it varies from manufacturer?
