I've never ever had olive oil go bad on me. My preference is Catalan Arrebequina for culinary, if I can get it. But even the cheaper virgin first press stuff is fine. I wonder if it gets treated for US import in some way.

I have a bottle here that's gone stale for sure.

Smell? taste? If it's only cloudy, that's temperature related.

    Hi,
It goes rancid after two months. I tried small bottles and large different brands.
It smells and tastes really bad.

Hm. I opened a bottle a few weeks ago which was at least six months past it's best before date. It was fine - and I've never had the stuff go bad.

I use mineral oil for anything like this.

Baby oil is mineral oil, but, as kyratango notes, with fragrance (& maybe other additives? Have never examined a label.) I have a friend who uses it to oil cameos because she likes the smell & she has never reported a problem. However, if I oiled my cameos, I'd go with the pure stuff, to be on the safe side.

Same here - baby oil has "stuff" in it, whereas mineral oil doesn't.
