I always use a testing stone and I advise everyone to use one.
I don't. But I don't know if I'd buy two bottles at once, silver testing acid usually deteriorates rapidly.

Yes, it seems you can only use it for a year. The two bottles + stone (€17.09 for me) are cheaper than one bottle + stone (€20.5). Same seller.

I wonder what is so special about that stone and that acid is probably something one could make by mixing a few things. Don't know if it is worth the trouble.

Years ago I bought a complete kit, including solutions for testing different gold finesses and platinum, and a stone. Now I just buy silver solution separately to replace the old one. Usually from Bulgaria. (I am your neighbour to the north, NL)

The stone is unglazed black porcelain. The liquid is based on nitric acid. Here is a video on how to make your own silver testing solution:

That's the one. He also offers free shipping, and since I already have the stone and need only one bottle at a time (because it doesn't keep), this is cheaper for me.

OK, thanks. Will buy the acid there and the stone in the UK. Thx.

Can you buy the stone separately in the UK?
I meant it is cheaper in my case, because I already have the stone and a second bottle would be a waste. If you start out, it might be wise to chose the cheapest option including a stone?

You might get a piece of silver that you don`t want to mark/stain with acid or rub on a stone.

Buy a Rare Earth magnet ( Neodymium)
There are videos on youTube on how to use them, especially on silver coins.

    They are really cheap.

Don`t put them near phones or car remotes.

I have a few of those magnets. I'm just looking into every possible method to identify silvered/silver.

I believe silver testing solution is nitric acid and two other components. Maybe they mention it in the video.
