001121BB-9632-4388-AE31-0088FD4D69DB.jpeg Hi again all! Got a lot of jewelry, and thought it was a bust (looked nice but mainly junk when received, my life sometimes). I had pretty much ignored this, thinking it was those cheap bangles tied together. Upon closer inspection, it is elephant hair and solid gold! I was kinda flabbergasted. Looked it up and came across antique “Raj Grand Tour” elephant hair bracelets. Ok, fits, but can’t find anything about Raj grand tours. Do any of the historians know about this? Thanks!!

Not Grand Tour, imo, but very traditional Indian bangles. @Any Jewelry

Thank you Bear. I just don’t know, and once again don’t have much to reference online. A google pic search found the exact same bracelet. One of two I have found online. 411BEA45-6253-4AB3-A2C2-ED5AE603F846.jpeg

I see you found it, yes, they are traditional southern African elephant hair bangles. They are still being made, as a symbol of strength, and other good things. The traditional way of making them is with two knot slides, or braided. Yours are a more Western style.
The hair is taken from the tail, in case you're wondering.;)

Yours are very nice, because they are made with gold. It would be pretty hard to find proof that they are Victorian though. Friends of mine brought similar bangles back from southern Africa, and they were brand new when they bought them.
There is no such thing. The Grand Tour was through Continental Europe, and sometimes the Middle East as well. The Raj was in British India.

The one on the red background is, but that is a different set from Raccoon's. Raccoon's has one bangle with thin twisted wire, twisted around the hair, the one on the red background doesn't.:)
