Copper plate

As best as I can tell this is beaten copper that has first been coated with something black, out of (or into) which the design has then been etched or scraped. (Reminds me of wax-covered cards at primary school.) The silver metallic lines have been attached (soldered?) on top.

I'm guessing tourist art from Egypt, but my guesses have been horribly wrong on more than one occasion. Can anyone comment? Thanks!

 

This set from Etsy thought 1970s80s tourist items. Some are more detailed than others.

 

It looks more Viking (than Egyptian) but?

The design is chased and the silver is connected like damascene.

Small "teeth" raised up off the surface of the copper and the silver is tapped onto the "teeth". Similar to Japanese damascene.

 

I wonder how the etsy seller decided on 1970s-1980s?

 

I saw stuff like this in Cairo in both the 90s and more recently.
