This dress has 2 inside labels that read, dry clean only and no other labels.
The zipper pull and tab are all metal.
Any idea what this dress was made for or called ?

    Thank You 004.JPG 005.JPG 007.JPG 008.JPG 009.JPG 010.JPG 011.JPG

Just from memories of my teen years I would say 1970's princess style dress. could be for a formal dance or a wedding.

Given metal zip, I'd put it a bit earlier. In the 1960s. (Plastic zippers were in wide use by the late 1960s.) Could have been a prom or bridesmaid's dress. "Princess" is as good a description as any. Or "Renaissance."

First thing I thought of was I Dream Of Jeannie due to the look.

Maybe others are going to disagree with this, but if for resale, I'd stay away from vintage long, full length dresses. (Perhaps with the exception of (long) dresses from an extremely sought after maker -- but even then I'd look-up values first before purchasing.)

Where I live the "long dress" look is completely out, and clothing consignment stores will tell you straight up that they will not accept dresses or skirts that are long nowadays. They just don't sell.

Might be exceptions to this in certain parts of the U.S.

Agree with resale market for long dresses, especially non-designer labels in man-made fabrics that haven't aged well.

    Certainly 1960s.

Interesting about long dresses: they do very well here.

Note to self: if selling long dresses make sure to include shipping to the UK.

    Good idea.

And to be clear, I'm talking about Maxi length.

Just attended a (US) college event last weekend with a couple thousand people, the look could not be further from Maxi length. Of course, styles do rotate around so what is popular one year might be something different in no time. :)

Edit: Just spent a few minutes looking at "sold" Maxi dresses on Ebay. Many do not sell, but there are certain ones that do sell very well, which was a surprise to me, and now will be on my list --for the most part MUST HAVE a designer label. Almost zero with non-designer labels were in the $100 and over list on Ebay.

Vintage "Laura Ashley: and some "Gunnie Sax" were selling pretty good. Gonna check out the thrift with a new mission!

Laura Ashley with Welsh labels is particularly sought after. Gunne Sax isn't as well known here. If you ever find Ossie Clark, Radley, Jean Varon, John Bates - well, that's several hundred pounds. Gina Fratini too.
