IMG_3394.JPG IMG_3395.JPG IMG_3393.JPG IMG_3396.JPG This little jug is 7 1/4", salt glazed? 19th century? The bottom is where I am having the most trouble with the identification. Am I trying to make too much of it? Thank you for any thoughts!

I believe this is an early 1900's stoneware jug. Possibly made in Georgia would be my guess. It would be difficult to attribute to a certain potter.

Thanks Greg. I check in to see what is going on from time to time. Pat sent me an email asking about this jug.

CRS, My feeling was that it had age, but could not guess how much. I appreciate your expertise! Thank you Pat for the help you gave in question CRS. I appreciate all of the help!

Not really particularly knowledgeable about pottery, but thought I'd throw out there that I had a very similar piece, though more in the area of a foot tall - pottie friend IDed it as a mid to late 19th century French oil jug...

    Hi Carl -
So glad to see you here. And thank you for answering.

Would this be called tobacco spit glaze?

    Hi Pat,
No the tobacco spit glaze has darker brown narrow drips just what you think of as a drippy nasty spitton would look like.

Your welcome Jackolin. Long ways from being an expert. Just so happen to live in an area where a lot of this type of pottery can be found.
