First Nations Mask

Hi,
I picked up this mask today, it is signed but I'm not finding any information on the carver other than a listing on liveauctonworld but it has no information on him. I can find other artists with the same last name.
Sean Simeon, the date looks like 08, I can't figure out what the word is underneath the signature. Maybe Komaku__a.
Any information appreciated.

HA!.....looks like is 'says' Komokwa !!!!!
Simeon is a large family of carvers.....this guy I don't know....but likely related to Carl...
This is ( no offense..) a young carver banging out tourist works ...
maybe...someday....he'll get better....maybe he already has......
but not here !

 

thanks komokwa! No offence taken . The lady I bought it from bought it at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal so a tourist piece makes sense.

 

I've been there...several times....& I kinda miss it !

 

My first thought too, and it does.

 

a Komokwa mask comes in many styles....& even several similar names...
but most classic Kwakiutl designs include a crown on the head...



after that.....
artists can and do add any number of Komokwas helpers, subjects, minions, and sea creatures........

 

I would expect no less for Komokwa.
