Possible Dunbar Thrift Find

Greetings! My husband and I recently purchased this cabinet from a thrift store and then noticed the back markings which indicate it may be a Dunbar. However, the tag looks different than those we've seen online.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether this is a true Dunbar or just a nice mid-century cabinet?

See what you mean. Doesn't quite seem to be Dunbar quality with those screw-on legs but who knows?

 

Based on overall style, pulls, and of course the tag, I think it's safe to conclude it is Dunbar and designed by Edward Wormley. There are other Dunbar pieces online with the same tag, like this one:

The auction house listed it as c 1940, but I'd say this one (and yours) are likely 50's, possibly 60's.

Anyway, great score. Any Dunbar piece is very desirable and worth buying at thrift store prices.

I have the Dunbar book of 1950's furniture and your cabinet is not in it. Wormley started with Dunbar in 1931 so it's definitely possible this was part of one of their early modern lines, which started in 1944 .

 

We had the same thoughts about the legs, verybrad, but now that I see they are identical to the legs of the cabinet mark737 linked to, they seem authentic.
