Beautiful New Pickup

    Just picked up this wonderful piece today. Aside from being a well executed contemporary piece, the framing is really what got me excited. Looks like gold leaf accents and custom linen surrounding the canvas. The canvas is nailed down so i know it’s at least before the 1950s. Unfortunately, I’m having a hard time with finding an artist. Is it Green? So many options out there to choose from. Maybe someone here knows?

    Well, floating around the internet... There seems to have been an artist named Maurice Green who worked in the Cubist style. His works often used a grid structure and checkerboard pattern.

    I would be cautious here. The only information about the artist is coming from one L.A. gallery.

    Who told you that? Just because some people use staples, some still use tacks too so that assumption is very IFFY

    Thanks Debora. This was found in LA so we may be onto something. Maurice's signatures don’t exactly line up but I think maybe close?

    that was just general knowledge I’ve gained. But I can see that it’s not definitive

    That's more like it, I can see it being a late 70's retroish thing. Pretty though.
