what is this?

    does anyone know what this is for?
    Its not a smoking pipe! the tube only opens at one end and the little box doesnt connect internally to the tube, I assume its for putting hot cinders and heating up something like a knife?

    Could be Persian, most often these are identified as Japanese, and called yatate
