    Part of a fireplace set. Something to do with lighting the fire, like with a flammable liquid in the pot. My parents' set had this piece but I don't ever remember it being used.

    A hearth? That's where the fire is built and burns, not part of the equipment.

    Your right fireplace brass cauldron starter. Hearth I was thinking of the screen. Got confused on my part. Thank you guys!
