I picked up this wooden gameboard today. I couldn't find anything similar. Is it chess? It has numbers and letters on it. Thank you for any info! It folds out.

Could it be so simple as just a chess set? Could be - I tried counting the pieces but my eyes started to cross! :)

Yes to chess. The numbers and letters are for chess notation.

Also, I should’ve mentioned that those letters and numbers are for algebraic chess notation which did not become widely used until about 1980.

looks like 32 pieces, I managed to get a count by doing each color separately. Got to be chess.
(Counting and typing more slowly than you folks ;))

The brown King is not part of the set.

I see it now- there is a brown (plastic?) king at middle top that is not like the others....maybe used to replace a missing piece. Do I have to try to re-count?

Set up the board and put the pieces in place. It somehow looks Scandinavian design.
