Hello, I am new here with hardly any knowledge about antiques, but I fascinated with them
I ha e wanted a set of andirons and ai'm wondering if these were nice. They appear to be hollow, and the seller said Stanton Cast Iron.

There are some beautiful andirons on the market, brass and other materials. The prices are down because houses either don't have fireplaces or are using gas logs. Shop, compare and make an offer for what you want and can afford.

I don't see anything particularly special about these. However, if you like them and the price is right, go for them.

Our house has six fireplaces, so I justify collecting old sets when I see them cheap or free (even though I have at least three pairs for each fireplace in the basement by now, most of them 18th or early 19th century...). Anyway, these look 20th century, and fairly common. I would recommend looking for nicer/older ones unless you like these. As noted, not a lot of buyer interest in these so you'll see more if you keep looking. (I am speaking about New England, where every home had at least one fireplace since the 1600's, so there are still a lot hanging around. This may not be true where you are.)

    Welcome!
I don't know about andirons, but others have noted that the market for them is down.
My experience has been that if one is buying for personal use rather than for resale, buying when the market is down is quite fun and rewarding (not in the monetary sense).
For any type of item, if the market is down, one will have a great many items to choose from, and many will be items that would have been rare/expensive formerly.
Entirely the opposite is true for those who buy for resale, of course....the resale buyer will have many to choose from, but will also know that their resale value has fallen, and that regardless of price, the items will be harder to sell than when the market was hotter; and a reseller hates to buy anything that is likely to sit in inventory for an extended period.
So, have fun with your andiron shopping, and in this market, don't settle for second best; go for something that will make you happy for years to come.
