Leaning towards cheap replica. What do you think?

Only marking is the letter “E” carved in several inside and back areas.

Don’t know why picture is grey, but definitely hand carved due to asymmetry.

Thanks for letting me pick your brain!

Think you did well for $10.00. Do think it is a newer piece. Pics are a bit small to tell much. Can't decide if this is Mexican or Asian in origin.

    Thank you for looking!

I’m struggling with adding pictures. They’re either too big to load, or too small to see. Lol

For $10 you can't go wrong, and it is a nice table. I'm with Brad, it is not very old. Could we see a picture of the top, all of it?
It could be Latin American or Indonesian. This model table is made in Pasuruan, East Java, but the carving and construction are a bit too chunky for either Java or Madura. It could be Bali or Lombok, also in Indonesia.

It's funky-looking, whatever it is. Someone could build a room around it.

Any suggestions on how to sell my husband on that idea?

Sadly, the top was missing when I bought it. I think Brad’s suggestion that it was made in Mexico might be close. The romanic letter E is unmistakably scratched into the back and on the inside of several other pieces. I’m not sure if Bali or Lombok would use a romanic alphabet as an identifier.

I’m quite happy that it’s a modern piece. I get to put away the Tung Oil and wax for little bit and maybe play with some paint or colored stain. Products I wouldn’t dare use on a vintage or antique. Then my grandkids can strip the paint someday and go down the rabbit hole of researching and exploring it’s origin as a vintage item.

I meant the carving, that makes it easier to identify the place of origin. I don't know if it ever had a glass top.
They do, Indonesian is written in Latin script. The flowers with the crossed hearts look very Indonesian. Again, we would need to see the top (carved) to see where it is from, we can't tell from side views. The shape of the table is generic, it really comes down to the carving.

I LOVE learning! I never would have guess romanic alphabets were used in that region of the world.

Im uploading a pic of the front drawers and side to see the carving in the legs as well.

I see a lot of the flowers and leaf patterns in Mexican/Spanish Colonial carvings so I think it may be trying to copy those styles. I could also be a world away too. I really just having fun guessing and scouring the internet looking a beautiful furniture. 5AF52792-78D5-4247-860A-62BA72CA41C2.jpeg A18AB8D8-1B8D-470B-8821-710DCFB3EB16.jpeg

I think it is a third option, related to what you originally thought. Spanish Colonial Revival Style, from California. Also called Santa Barbara Style, because it is used a lot in Santa Barbara architecture and furniture making.

10 dollars isn't even enough to buy the material of this table..

As long as it is $10 for something like this, he should be very happy. As long as you have the space.
Mind you, with all the money you save, and the money you'll make if you ever sell your $10 'stuff', you could build an extension.:D
