    My feeling is that it is a modern tourist/souvenir item, possibly from somewhere in Africa, but could be from
    elsewhere.

    Thank you, could it be worth anything as it is banded so it looks like agate?

    This is not agate. Other stones can be banded as well, in fact many rocks are, a result of compression of different layers of soil.
